Nothing is more important than our health - NOTHING ! Its what enables us to make the most of what life has to offer. Without good physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health, little else matters. Health considerations tend to take a back seat because more pressing matters take priority - money, career, family commitments etc.

Humans have a soul which is their real self and the body is the earthly temple. We are here for the purpose of gaining knowledge and experience, developing virtues which we lack and advancing towards the perfection of our nature.

You may or may not agree with the above statements ... either way the body is of prime consideration when it comes to health and harmony. How can we develop if the foundation of our life is damaged ? When mind/body/spirit are out of balance we become ill ... dis-eased. How can we rebalance our energy and live life to the full ? The ability to really relax is of utmost importance in our quest for health as when we are calm and relaxed we are free from stress. It then becomes much easier to concentrate, focus and achieve our goals.

If we liberate our natural talents and go with the flow, we will have unlimited energy. A simple path to health must be found and the 5 essentials for life will give YOU the tools necessary to completely change your life for the better.

AIR

The first essential for life is air. The moment we cease to breathe, the physical body begins to decay. Breathing PURE air is therefore the basic root of existence, and as such must have prime consideration in any problem of health.

Through the air we breathe we gain vital life force, which is also known as Ki, Chi, Prana, Eck, Energy, Magnetism etc. We are generally aware that mountain or sea air makes us feel good and can even promote healing. It is surprising that we do not give more attention to the QUALITY of the air we breathe.

One of the most beneficial methods of breathing is deep rhythmical inhalation and exhalation through the nose. 10 - 15 minutes of deep breathing upon arising and before retiring will be most beneficial. Any time throughout the day, practise of this technique will help reduce stress and tension and so aid the healing process.

WATER

Most of the planet is covered with water and the human body is 75% water, so it is easy to see how vital pure water is for life. Every living cell requires water, air and nutrients. Water acts as a solvent in the body and the purer it is, free from pollutants and chemicals, the more toxins can be let into it for removal.

It is generally accepted by those who have studied the subject that the abundant use of distilled water will help keep the body cells free from accumulated waste products. It is a marvelous blood purifier and can help to preserve health and longevity. There is also bottled water and various fitering methods available.

NUTRITION

Today after a brief detour into science and inorganic medicines, humankind is once again being directed to the proper use of Nature's products to restore to abundant health a dis-ease ridden world. What we eat is directly related to how we think, feel and act and the body is a marvelous factory that needs constant maintainence. We are what we eat !

It is absolutely necessary to recognise the ill-effects of refining, processing, overcooking and the convenience packaging of many of our foods today. It is a good idea to look very closely at the nutritional quality of the foods you are eating. One of the secrets to recharge your energy to gradually introduce raw organic fruit and vegetables to your diet.

It is recommended that all intake of food should be organically grown. If this is combined with quality supplements, only THEN can we be sure to absorb more of the 90 nutrients the body needs on a daily basis in order to achieve real health. Put the pure nutrition in or bear the consequences !

EXERCISE

Everyone should take some exercise on a daily basis as part of a healthy lifestyle. Exercise is a process by which the cells of the body are placed under controlled stress. This stimulates metabolic efficiency as well as to increase vigour, strength and vitality. Most forms of exercise are good at stimulating particular body tissue, but leave aside the strengthening of others. An efficient form of exercise will be one which reaches every cell of the body. Research at NASA states that rebounding is THE complete exercise.

Good forms of exercise are : walking, swimming, aikido, yoga, chi kung, tai chi, martial arts, etc. depending on your particular preference.

The 5 Tibetan rites are an excellent form of YOGA for exercise to re-balance your mind/body/spirit. I use this on a daily basis as part of my personal training, simple to learn and only takes 15 - 20 mins to perform. Highly recommended ! more information : Tibetan Yoga

SLEEP AND RELAXATION

Most of us counteract the benefits of sleep and relaxation ... soft mattresses, television, eating before retiring etc. If we are using energy for digestion or processing thoughts, we are not using it to repair and recharge our vital life force.

There are 3 levels of sleep which are repeated in a cycle 4 or 5 times throughout the night. The first is shallow sleep where the heart beat drops, breathing becomes slow and regular and the body is liable to toss and turn.

This is followed by a period of deep sleep where both muscles and brain are relaxed, growth hormones are released and protein production is increased. During this period the body is REPAIRING itself and dead cells are replaced.

Next a period of sleep where electrical activity of the brain increases and the breathing and heart beat become irregular. It is at this level that we dream, which is indicated by rapid eye movement (REM) behind closed eyelids.

Rest and relaxation CAN be gained by lying immobile without sleeping, we sleep apparently to dream. Research has indicated that time spent dreaming, which normally occupies about two hours each night is the most important period of sleep. So if you cannot sleep do not worry, rest and relax. It is likely that during the sleep you do get, your brain fulfills its dreaming requirements.
