Is it possible to develop your aikido skills at a much faster rate?

Of course!

But, it depends on your current training methods. Maybe you are already training in the most optimum way possible... most student are not!

Here are some ways that students currently train...

1 - Once a week for 2 hours.

2 - A few times a week.

3 - Every day.

If you practise once or twice a week at a dojo, don't practice at home, or spend time thinking about aikido, then you are unlikely to develop real skill. Or if you do, it will take you a long time!

This is more of a hobby.

There is nothing wrong with that, because we all have busy lives, and lots of things that have to be done before we can find the space for our own training.

If you have made a decision to be the best you can be, there are several things that you can do to speed up your learning curve...

1 - Find the best instructor you can.

I don't mean the highest ranked instructor, I mean the BEST instructor. Someone who can teach you aikido techniques, plus the theory, principles, and applications.

In this way you will fully understand exactly why it is done that way, how to make it more effective, and how to teach it to others when you become an instructor.

The days of silent demonstration, followed by one word 'practise', will soon be over. It is not enough to just copy what a technique looks like.

There are some excellent instructors out there passing on ALL of their knowledge and wisdom.

2 - Be an active student.

Listen closely to your instructor, visit several dojos, sign up for seminars, and try different ways of performing techniques. By training with a variety of different instructors and students, you will become more experienced.

3 - Study your art.

By actively studying, gathering information, looking at different perspectives, you will become more knowledgable. It is important to know about the history of aikido, and my Aikido Health Centre website offers you a ton of unique information.
