GM FOODS - The facts

Greenpeace has a long history of farming-related campaigns - their work on GM started a decade ago. Food is central to life. How we grow it affects the land, water and wildlife around us, farm animals, our health, and rural communities. Food seems cheap on the supermarket shelves, but the environmental cost is untold.

GM food is not a genuine solution, by contrast modern organic farming gives us healthy food we can trust without costing the earth. Many Supermarkets, restaurants and food producers are now banning GM ingredients however GM crops are still being grown as 'field trials', releasing genetic pollution. Millions of tonnes of GM crops are also sneaking into the food chain via animal feed. Both of these backdoors need to be closed.

Greenpeace leads by action, intervening to prevent immediate environmental damage. We work with supermarkets, chefs, wholefood shops, and the public to ensure that when Government fails to set a proper agricultural policy to support organic food, consumer demand ensures it.

Greenpeace opposes the release of GM into the environment because they pose unpredictable and irreversible long-term risks to environmental and human health. GM crops are new life forms that have never before occurred in nature, created by a technique that allows scientists to insert foreign genes into random positions in the DNA of a host.

GM enables scientists to bypass natural selection and evolution by transferring genes from species that would never normally breed together. Once these man-made organisms are released into the environment and the food chain there is no way of recalling them and no-one knows what the long term effects of GM crops on the environment and health will be.

Agriculture is at a crossroads and the choice is stark.

Do we want industrial farming and GM food?

Do we want sustainable farming and organic food?

Consumers have lost their trust in industrial farming and food production because of concerns about its impact on human health and the environment:

The recent spate of food scares such as BSE, E coli, and salmonella. A growing awareness of pesticide residues in food and drinking water. Concern for animal welfare.

Far from liberating us from the problems of industrial farming, GM looks set to exacerbate them. Neither consumers or farmers stand to benefit from GM. GM crops are living pollution that will contaminate conventional and organic farms alike.

Greenpeace is campaigning for a ban on GM and a phase-out of industrial farming methods. The solution to the problems of industrial agriculture, including GM, lies in sustainable systems of farming which do not rely on artificial chemical inputs and do not harm the soil and wildlife. When you buy organic you know that it is both good for you and good for the environment.

The body is an expression of our life history and in some way has recorded and reflected everything we have ever done, said, felt and thought. It is essential to keep the body fit and healthy and free from anything that can imprison it... illness, pain, fatigue etc. In order for us to experience a boost of vital energy we must take firm control of our lives. Discipline and Willpower are two excellent tools for the job.

Have you noticed how many people who are not 'at home' in the present moment. The great majority of people live 'alongside themselves', in the head... past memories, future projects, extreme emotions etc. When we truly inhabit the body we begin a journey of discovery that leads to development, experience and abundance.

Babies sleep when tired, move freely and express themselves by sound, gestures and imitation. Instinct guides it through experiences and stages of development. The social and educational framework soon imposes limitations that imprison the child within physical, emotional and mental stereotypes. This does not account for the natural needs of the mind and body and the child loses connection with natural sleep, movement and expression.

As Adults we need to free ourselves from social conditioning. This 'mental baggage' is a burden to carry everywhere we go and the time has come to just let it go. We can replace tiredness and pain with energy and vitality and it is easy to change our life, once we have changed our mind.

Motivation increases our discipline and willpower... so How do we get motivated ? We can Create what we want to become by Thought !

A simple and effective Mental Exercise :

Get comfortable, close your eyes, breathe deeply, completely relax by tensing and relaxing all of your muscles 3 times. Hold the muscular tension for 1-3 seconds. Imagine yourself filled with Vibrant Energy that makes you healthy, strong, and flexible in mind and body.

A simple and effective Physical Exercise :

Walking is one of the most natural exercises to boost our vital life force. A 30 minute walk 3 times a week, in a natural environment will increase our positive energy by filling the lungs with good oxygen.

A mental and physical exercise combined is an excellent way of mind and body co-ordination. I highly recommend Aikido, Tai Chi, Yoga and Qigong

The physical body is comprised of millions of cells that developed from one cell at conception. These cells formed by growth and division based on nuclear, chromosomal and genetic or controlling material. They differentiate into particular tissues and organs, each drawing on what it needs from the cell nuclei. Modern research shows that there are also subtle magnetic energies that play a part in the energy blueprint (DNA).

The cells of the body respond just like plants in a garden. They can be strong and healthy or weak and ill according to the growth and nutritional factors available in the environment. Our cells can grow vibrant with health and well-being or merely struggle to survive from day-to-day... depending on our environment.

Our bodies consist of the air, water and food we consume that is processed into our cells, tissues and organs. Therefore a healthy body can only be built from natural pure and organic foods that are pollutant free. We need to understand what really works for us in the maintainance of good health and well-being.

All the cells of the body are in constant change... they grow, they live, they die. This gives us the ability to regenerate healthy tissues by changing our living and eating habits.
